Turn Your Declaration Into A Dialogue

Why is it that:

  • A conversation with a friend is easy and fun?
  • Writing a document can be like pulling teeth?
  • Speaking before a group is like facing a firing squad?

Imagine the difference if you could keep your mind in conversational mode while writing and speaking. What would that be like? What would it be like to write with the same natural style as you talk with a friend? What would it be like to speak with the same relaxed and animated feeling as you have during your most enjoyable conversations? It’s possible. But it will require a change in the way you may be thinking about the act of writing and speaking.

While writing, try to follow these basic rules:

  1. Imagine a specific person right beside you, listening as you write. Pick a real person that you know. Picture what that person is wearing, where they live, where they work, their most passionate interests, the problems they face. This alone will add life and interest to everything you say.
  2. Speak every word before you write it. Do you tend to talk naturally, but when you write, you feel like you’re composing an essay for English class? When you talk, you are concerned with what you have to say, but when you write, do you get caught up in things like word usage and grammar and end up turning a natural, living, free-flowing thought into a rigid, dead discourse? Speak every word before you write it down.
  3. Carry on a conversation with yourself as you write. When I’m writing, I’m asking questions, answering myself, making jokes and laughing, getting into lively discussions and heated arguments. If you walked in on me, you’d probably question my sanity and consider dialing 911! The point is, don’t be alone as you write. Be in conversation.

Do these things, and your writing will engage your reader. Imagine, a business letter that actually engages a reader. Imagine a Web site or an announcement that involves your reader in a discussion. How might that change the nature of your marketing materials—and the results you get?

As they say, one picture is worth a thousand words. At you’re request, I will help you create one engaging message to your market audience. You choose whether you’d like it to be in the format of a Web site, an announcement, or a spoken presentation.

By the time we’re done, I guarantee that this will have a positive influence on every communication you create. One call will make it happen for you:

Next week’s Lightning Pen Copywriting Tip will show how to transform your live audience from a firing squad into partners in communication. It’s easier than you think.

Try email marketing. It's fast, easy and inexpensive so you can communicate with your market audience on a regular basis and stay "top of mind" to them. I use iContact. It has all the features you need:

  • Contact management, ability to create and format emails, blogs and RSS feeds, autoresponders for series, a sign-up form for your Web site, excellent training in how to use the tool and more.

Please take a look at this powerful tool. It is central to a successful email marketing program. Don't try to patch your email marketing together with Outlook or some other less powerful program. It simply won't work.
