Two Great Headline Types For Your Arsenal

How to make it impossible for your reader to ignore you: Good copywriters will often spend as much time creating just the right headline as they spend writing the entire article that follows. The headline is that important. Your readers are asking the question, “Shall I read this article?” They will make their decision based on your headline.

Here are two great types of headlines for your arsenal:

  1. Start your headline with 'How To'. Why are there so many thousands of “how to” reports and books? Because they sell! People will always want to know “how to” do something.
    • Be specific:
      • “How to Write Killer Headlines.”
    • Tell a good story:
      • “How I increased my sales up to 500% by using this one simple strategy.”
    • Promise to show how to do the impossible. I saw this great headline on the Internet the other day:
      • “How to Divorce As Friends And maybe save your marriage!”

That’s enough to stop some readers in their tracks and glue their eyes to what you have to say. This is the purpose of a good headline.

    • A slight variation is “How I”, or “How you…”

      • How I Write Headlines that Pull 14% And More.
      • How you can retire early and live the life you've always dreamed of.
      • How I Play Golf by Tiger Woods.
    • Substitute How with Why.
      • Why some people almost never lose money in the markets.
      • Why you can earn $800 a day while you sit in your boat and fish.
      • Why some people will never pay taxes again.
  2. Ask an intriguing question in your headline. Questions capture attention and immediately engage the imagination of your reader.
    • "What's you Financial IQ? Take this simple test and find out"
    • “Do You Know What Video Games Your Kids Are Playing?”
    • “What Are The Top Ten Ways To Tell If You Have A Sucky Home Page?”

A good question can engage your reader emotionally. People tend to make their buying decisions based upon emotions.

  • "Are You Sick and Tired of Working For Someone Else?"
  • “Are you HOT or NOT? Submit a picture of yourself and find out!”

How would you use 10 powerful headlines created especially for your business?

  • The opener for an article
  • The central attention grabber for your home page

  • The cover for your brochure

The benefits to you:

  • Capture the attention of prospective clients.
  • Cause people to inquire further about your product or service.
  • Create more opportunities for you to sell your product.
  • Gain new clients.

Try email marketing. It's fast, easy and inexpensive so you can communicate with your market audience on a regular basis and stay "top of mind" to them. I use iContact. It has all the features you need:

  • Contact management, ability to create and format emails, blogs and RSS feeds, autoresponders for series, a sign-up form for your Web site, excellent training in how to use the tool and more.

Please take a look at this powerful tool. It is central to a successful email marketing program. Don't try to patch your email marketing together with Outlook or some other less powerful program. It simply won't work.
