Use Key Power Words

Easily Get Proven Results by Using The 12 Most Powerful Words In the English Language Guaranteed: You’ll Discover The Right Words Work Like Money

Your image in the mind of your audience grows, or all but disappears, based, in part, on the power of the words you use. The words you use in your headline will set the tone.

In one of the best T.V. stand-up comedy routines I ever saw, the comedian’s image appeared in a window on the screen. He told viewers that each member of his live audience had an “interest monitor” device. Whenever he said something interesting his audience turned the dial to the right and his image on the screen grew in size. Whenever he was boring his audience turned the dial to the left and his image on the screen became smaller. It was funny watching his image all but disappear as he spoke about subjects of no interest to his audience. Then, he’d throw in the word, “sex”, and his image would suddenly grow to fill the screen!

As you speak about your business, your audience has a similar “interest monitor”. Powerful words cause your image to grow. Weak words cause your image to shrink.

Here are the 12 most powerful words in the English language, according to a Yale University study:

  • Money
  • Discovery
  • Save
  • Easy
  • New
  • Love
  • Health
  • Proven
  • You
  • Results
  • Guaranteed
  • Safety

This week, experiment using power words as you describe your service or product, especially in your headlines. It’s like learning a new language—the language of marketing. Practice until it becomes second nature. But that’s just the beginning. Did you know that people seeking your product or service respond to a unique set of power words?

There’s a great free tool on the Internet that will help you discover the power words for your particular niche market. It’s the search term suggestion tool at www.overture.com , a pay-per-click service. Enter a word that describes your niche market, say, “Insurance”, and you will get a read-out of companion terms and how many “clicks” each term received in the last month with Overture’s visitors. Simply put, it’s a word popularity tool. For “Insurance”, about 70,000 clicks were received for the word “health”, 60,000 for “auto”, 50,000 for “car”. See how this might be useful as you develop the most effective vocabulary to describe your business?

But it gets even better. Internet search engines, like people, respond to word popularity. By using key power words in your domain name, and in the title of each Web page you will dramatically move yourself up the list on search engines such as Google. You get even further if you go for approximately 3-4% key-word saturation in the first and last third of the text of each Web page. Some have found this to be the most effective search engine optimization strategy—much better than meta-tags. But that will be a future Lightning Tip.
