Brand Yourself: Part 1

You can win based on your image.

How many political candidates have proven that you can win based upon the power of your image? Perhaps we've gone a bit too far because in recent years it's hard to discover what the candidates really stand for. Elections are won or lost based upon who creates the most compelling image.

There's an election that occurs every time your market thinks about their needs. Whether it's a home, a car, a Web site, a loan, a new outfit, or even a new executive VP:

  • A decision is about to be made
  • There are alternate choices of which you may be one
  • The one who has the most compelling image rises to the top of the list.

Whether you're a Realtor, an executive coach, a Web designer or a mortgage broker, your image either helps or hurts your business. And this is also true if you're a corporate executive. The days of identifying and staying with one company throughout a career are long past. If you're in a corporation, you need to market yourself as a free agent. Your market is the decision makers of your corporation and of other businesses that may one day consider hiring you. Your image either helps or hurts your career.

Two crucial questions from the marketing coach:

  1. What is your image in the eyes of your market?
  2. How compelling is it?

I'm going to stop here for now, because these questions are so important. Take a week to reflect. Some of the most important decisions are made on the subliminal level--beneath logic. This is the area impacted by a strong image or brand.

This issue begins a series on Branding Yourself.

  • What is a good brand?
  • How do you create a compelling brand?

You can win based on your image.

To your success and significance,

Try email marketing. It's fast, easy and inexpensive so you can communicate with your market audience on a regular basis and stay "top of mind" to them. I use iContact. It has all the features you need:

  • Contact management, ability to create and format emails, blogs and RSS feeds, autoresponders for series, a sign-up form for your Web site, excellent training in how to use the tool and more.

Please take a look at this powerful tool. It is central to a successful email marketing program. Don't try to patch your email marketing together with Outlook or some other less powerful program. It simply won't work.
