Create Your First Book: Part 9

The Path is Long. Don't Stumble at the End. (continue)

  • I had not provided a page focused on advertising my most effective marketing tool—my e-zine!
  • The page that advertised the next upcoming product, The SuddenlyInSite Product Generator System, spoke about the product, but did not mention it was not yet created, and it offered no way for the reader to respond!! It left the reader asking, "So What?" ....Bad Bad!

Now these two vital items are basic "Marketing Theory 101" items. Always place every product within the context of your on-going, larger mission to your market. Missing the two above items would have been both a marketing tragedy and an embarrassment. Note that this marketing professional, while creating his product on the subject of marketing nearly missed them both!! Nearly, were it not for testing, testing, testing. Even the professional speaking out of their own area of expertise still needs to rigorously test their product presentation (written or spoken) before releasing it!

The path of product creation and production is long. Don't stumble at the end! There is a final "take-away" from my experience. Here are two key forms of eleventh hour product testing:

1) Closely observe someone using your product.

  • What about it seems to capture their attention?
  • What signs of engagement are they showing?
  • What is frustrating them?
  • What are they having touble understanding?
  • What needs are being left unmet that your product, with a few minor tweaks, could easily meet?

If you listen and observe deeply and with an open mind, you will be amazed at the answers to these questions.

2) Take a break from your product for a while.

  • Do something else. Then come back and pretend you are experiencing your product as a first time user. Analyze your own experience and ask the above questions.

You will never get more bang for your buck in adding value to your product than the time you spend pausing to test your product just before you release it. And there is no better, more significant and enduring education than that which you will recieve in the school of the eleventh hour product test!

To your success and significance,

David Smith, President, www.SuddenlyInSite.com

Try email marketing. It's fast, easy and inexpensive so you can communicate with your market audience on a regular basis and stay "top of mind" to them. I use iContact. It has all the features you need:

  • Contact management, ability to create and format emails, blogs and RSS feeds, autoresponders for series, a sign-up form for your Web site, excellent training in how to use the tool and more.

Please take a look at this powerful tool. It is central to a successful email marketing program. Don't try to patch your email marketing together with Outlook or some other less powerful program. It simply won't work.
